Most people never think about their dryer vent until something goes wrong. The dryer takes forever to dry a load. The laundry room gets humid and warm. Or worse - lint builds up somewhere it shouldn't and becomes a fire hazard. That's exactly the kind of situation we were dealing with here.

The original setup wasn't venting to the exterior properly, so we rerouted the whole run using 4-inch single-wall metal pipe. Metal pipe is the right call for dryer venting - it's smooth on the inside, which means less lint buildup and better airflow compared to the flexible foil stuff you see in a lot of older installs. The run follows a clean path up and across the wall, terminating through a proper exterior cap mounted flush to the stucco.

That exterior termination cap is worth pointing out. It's mounted tight to the wall with a flapper that opens when the dryer runs and closes when it's off - keeping pests and outside air from getting in between cycles. Small detail, but it matters. A poorly terminated vent is an open invitation for birds and rodents.

We also handled the gas connection for the dryer while we were at it. A new flexible gas connector with a shutoff valve gives the homeowner a safe, accessible way to shut off gas to the unit if they ever need to. Everything is accessible and done right - no shortcuts behind the wall you can't see.

Dryer venting doesn't get a lot of attention, but it affects how well your dryer runs, how safe your home is, and how long your machine lasts. If your dryer is running longer than it used to or something just seems off with the setup, it's worth having someone take a look.
