Cast iron sewer pipe has a lifespan - and when it goes, it really goes. The section we pulled out of this crawl space was completely rotted through, packed with rust, root intrusion, and years of buildup. That's not a slow drain problem. That's a full failure waiting to happen.

Here's what makes this type of issue tricky: it's hidden. Most homeowners have no idea what's going on under their house until drains start backing up, or worse, sewage starts showing up where it shouldn't. By the time you notice symptoms, the damage is usually already pretty bad.

We replaced the deteriorated 3-inch cast iron section with new ABS pipe and fittings. ABS is the right call here - it's durable, corrosion-resistant, and built to handle the demands of a main sewer line for the long haul. No more rust, no more cracks, no more roots finding their way in through weak spots.

Getting ahead of sewer line problems before they turn into full-blown emergencies is exactly the kind of thing that saves homeowners a lot of money and stress. Slow drains, gurgling sounds, and sewer smells are all signs worth paying attention to. A sewer camera inspection can tell you exactly what's going on without any guesswork.

If your drains have been acting up or you've got an older home with original cast iron plumbing, it's worth having someone take a look. Problems like this don't get better on their own.
