This one was a full relocation job. The tankless unit was originally installed inside the home near the kitchen - not ideal for ventilation, space, or long-term access. We moved the whole setup to the exterior of the building, which is honestly where these units perform best anyway.

Here's what that kind of move actually involves. It's not just unbolting a unit and hanging it outside. We had to cap off and reroute the existing interior supply lines, open up the wall to properly disconnect everything, and run new copper water lines and a gas line out to the new mounting location. That interior wall shot gives you a good idea of what we were working with before things got cleaned up.

The unit itself is a Navien - one of the better tankless options on the market. It's Energy Star certified, which means lower operating costs compared to a conventional tank heater. Mounted on the exterior stucco wall, it's properly supported with all the connections done cleanly - copper water lines, a yellow gas flex connector, shutoff valves on both the hot and cold sides, and a sediment filter inline to protect the unit long-term. Every fitting has a purpose.

Relocating a tankless heater to the outside also frees up interior space and eliminates the added complexity of indoor venting. For a lot of homes in Southern California, an exterior install just makes more sense - the climate is forgiving and you gain usable square footage inside. When we do these jobs, we're thinking about serviceability too. Everything is accessible, labeled, and shut-off-able without digging through a wall.

This is the kind of work where the details matter. Sloppy piping leads to leaks, poor flow, and headaches down the road. We take the time to do it right the first time - clean runs, proper fittings, and a finished install that looks as good as it functions.
